Apple’s newest flagships, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air, have run into an unexpected issue. Reviewers and early users noticed that under certain conditions mainly when shooting against extremely bright LED displays photos sometimes show black patches or odd squiggly lines across the image.
The problem doesn’t appear in every shot. In fact, some reviewers reported it happening only in about 1 out of 10 photos, usually when pointing the camera straight at stage lights or LED boards. In normal daylight, indoor settings, or portrait use, the phones perform as expected with Apple’s signature image quality.
Apple has acknowledged the glitch, confirming that it occurs in rare cases and only under very intense LED lighting. The company says it has already identified a fix and will roll out a software update soon to resolve the issue.
For now, everyday users may never encounter the bug, but for those who photograph concerts or live events, the glitch could be frustrating. Still, it’s worth noting that outside of this specific scenario, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air cameras remain among the best on the market, offering excellent detail, low-light performance, and computational photography.
Apple’s quick response suggests this won’t be a long-term problem, but it’s a reminder that even the most polished flagship launches can have their early hiccups.
