Apple has begun rolling out iOS 26.2.1 to support iPhones and iPads today. This minor point update focuses primarily on compatibility with Apple’s newly announced second-generation AirTag and a collection of stability and bug fixes rather than major new features.
Unlike big feature updates, iOS 26.2.1 doesn’t introduce sweeping changes to the core iPhone experience. According to Apple’s release notes, the update “provides support for AirTag (2nd generation) along with bug fixes,” and is available now for all devices that already support iOS 26.
The support for the second-generation AirTag is the headline addition here. These new trackers include an updated Ultra Wideband chip for improved Precision Finding, a 50 % louder chime, and other enhancements that require iOS 26.2.1 for full functionality on iPhones and compatible Apple Watches.
