Apple Reportedly Developing AirTag 2 and New HomePod Mini

Apple is reportedly preparing refreshed versions of both the AirTag and the HomePod mini, with references to the new hardware showing up in early iOS 26 code. The leaks suggest that the long-awaited AirTag 2 and an updated HomePod mini are now moving toward a 2026 launch window.

According to the findings, the AirTag 2 will focus on improving the core tracking experience. Apple is said to be introducing a more detailed battery indicator, a smoother setup process, and a new “Improved Moving” mode that enhances location accuracy when the tracker is in motion. The update is also expected to include a more advanced Ultra Wideband chip, helping boost precision and range compared to the first-generation model.

The new HomePod mini also appears to be getting a meaningful upgrade under the hood. It is reportedly set to switch from the older S5 processor to a newer S10 chip, similar to the one used in recent Apple Watch models. While the exterior design isn’t expected to change, the upgraded internals should deliver better responsiveness, faster processing, and more stable wireless communication. Despite the hardware boost, early reports indicate the updated mini might not fully support Apple’s upcoming Apple Intelligence suite, hinting that Apple could be reserving those features for a future, more powerful smart-home hub.Both products were previously rumored for 2024–2025 but now look likely to debut sometime in early to mid-2026. With Apple testing them internally through iOS 26 builds, the development phase appears to be well underway, setting the stage for the next wave of Apple’s accessory ecosystem.
