A new display schematic leak circulating today offers fresh insight into Apple’s plans for the iPhone 18 Pro ahead of its expected September 2026 / early 2027 debut. According to reliable front-panel rumors, Apple is moving part of the Face ID sensor system, specifically the infrared Flood Illuminator beneath the display, which could lead to a significantly smaller Dynamic Island on the upcoming flagship.
Unlike earlier reports that suggested Apple might adopt a single “hole-punch” cutout for the front camera and sensors, the latest leak clarifies that only the flood illuminator component appears destined to sit under the panel. The other TrueDepth components including the dot projector and infrared camera are likely to remain housed within a reduced, pill-shaped Dynamic Island, instead of being removed entirely. This would preserve the familiar Dynamic Island UI experience while shrinking its visual footprint at the top of the screen.

The refinement aligns with multiple analyst and supply-chain leaks indicating that Apple is actively working on under-display Face ID technology, but isn’t yet ready to fully hide all front-facing hardware. A respected former display analyst has corroborated this interpretation, noting that moving some Face ID elements under the display would allow for a smaller visible cutout area while keeping most TrueDepth sensors accessible for high-quality 3D facial recognition.
These developments contradict some earlier rumors that claimed the iPhone 18 Pro might eliminate the Dynamic Island or relocate the front camera to the top-left corner of the screen. Instead, the Dynamic Island is expected to remain, just more compact, as Apple transitions toward more advanced under-panel sensor layouts.
