Android 17 Beta 1 coming soon, Google confirms

Android 17 Beta 1

Google has officially confirmed that Android 17 Beta 1 is set to arrive very soon, marking the start of the next major testing phase for the upcoming Android release. The announcement comes right after the rollout of Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2.1, which is believed to be the final beta in the Android 16 cycle.

Unlike previous releases that began with a separate Developer Preview, Google is opting to jump straight to the public Beta 1 for Android 17 a shift that underscores its growing confidence in the stability of the early builds. This means the first public beta will be more polished from the start, with the latest bug fixes, performance improvements, and stability enhancements layered on top of the Android 16 QPR platform.

The Android 17 Beta 1 is expected to roll out as early as late February or March 2026, with Google Pixel phones being the first to receive the build. Users currently enrolled in the Android Beta Program will receive the update automatically over the air once it goes live. Those who prefer to stick with the stable Android 16 track can opt out of the beta program before Beta 1 is offered to their device.

This beta release kicks off several months of public testing leading up to a stable Android 17 launch, widely expected around mid-2026 (likely June). Early reports suggest the update  internally referred to as “Cinnamon Bun”  will bring design refinements, enhanced privacy controls, and broader AI and performance improvements, though detailed feature info will become clearer as the beta cycle progresses.
