Samsung’s Galaxy A38 5G has hit another development milestone, with two battery cell model numbers, EB-BA386EAE and EB-BA386EAY, now listed in India’s BIS certification database, SammyGuru reports. The listing doesn’t name the phone, but the model numbers point to it, and the phone itself hasn’t appeared in the database. The entries also don’t reveal battery capacity or charging speed.
The battery cells are the second regulatory trace of the phone, following its earlier appearance in the GSMA IMEI database, where tipster Ovrplus spotted it with two model numbers.
| Listing | Model numbers | What it points to |
| India BIS | EB-BA386EAE, EB-BA386EAY | Two battery cells linked to the Galaxy A38 |
| GSMA IMEI | SM-A386B/DS | Global dual-SIM version |
| GSMA IMEI | SM-A386U | US version |
Together, the two listings suggest Samsung is preparing the A38 for several markets, though neither says anything about specs.
The only hardware detail so far is less welcome. ZDNet Korea previously reported that the A38 will reuse the OLED panel from the Galaxy A27 instead of the one in the Galaxy A37. On paper the two panels match at 6.7 inches, 1080 x 2340 and up to 120Hz, but the A37’s panel reportedly reaches 1,900 nits outdoors and supports Always On Display, while the A27’s tops out around 800 nits and lacks AOD. Rising memory prices are the reported reason for the cost-cutting.
Samsung’s recent Galaxy A-series timing points to a March to April 2027 launch, likely alongside the Galaxy A58, which has already received its first One UI 9 firmware build. The A38’s processor, cameras, battery capacity and pricing are all still unknown.
