One UI 9 Users Report Slower Charging on Galaxy Phones

One UI 9

Some Galaxy owners say their phones charge noticeably slower after updating to One UI 9 / Android 17, with reports appearing across Samsung Community, Reddit, and Weibo of lower peak charging power, longer charging times, and Super Fast Charging drawing less power than before. The Galaxy S25 series appears most frequently in reports, with users claiming phones that previously hit higher charging speeds now throttle at lower wattages. However, these are individual measurements rather than Samsung lab results, so it’s important not to treat every report as proof that all S25 units are affected the same way.

The core complaint centers on Super Fast Charging appearing to still activate while drawing less power, resulting in longer overall charge times rather than charging stopping entirely. Interestingly, some users report the opposite: a Galaxy S26 owner on Samsung Community said charging improved after updating from One UI 8.5 to One UI 9, jumping from 16-18W to around 25W with the same charger.

Several factors could explain the reports. Samsung’s own support documentation lists device temperature, charging environment, battery condition, cable type, power adapter, wireless charger, charging port condition, and moisture detection as variables that affect charging speed. A lower wattage reading alone doesn’t confirm One UI 9 is deliberately limiting charge speeds. Some users have speculated that Samsung may have changed charging behavior to improve battery safety following reports of battery issues on some Galaxy S25+ units, but Samsung hasn’t confirmed that connection. It could also be a One UI 9 bug, thermal management changes, charger compatibility issues, or device-specific behavior.

On Samsung Community, the One UI Beta Team has acknowledged the charging complaints and asked affected users to submit error reports through the Samsung Members app, suggesting the company is investigating. However, as of early October 2026, Samsung has not publicly confirmed a One UI 9 charging bug, announced an intentional reduction in charging speeds, or released a dedicated fix. The current reports are best treated as user complaints under investigation rather than a confirmed widespread issue, since not all users are experiencing it and some report improvements instead.
