Galaxy S27 Ultra May Get a New 200MP ISOCELL HP6 Sensor With LOFIC Support

Galaxy S27 Ultra

Samsung is reportedly developing a new ISOCELL HP6 (S5KHP6) sensor for the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s main camera, according to prolific tipster Ice Universe. It’s a 200MP sensor, but the resolution isn’t the interesting part. The reported optical format stays at roughly 1/1.3-inch, close to the same 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor Samsung has used since the S23 Ultra, suggesting the upgrade is coming from sensor architecture rather than a physically larger sensor.

The headline addition is LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor), a sensor technology that helps handle excess electrical charge in bright areas of a scene. In theory, that means better highlight detail, wider dynamic range, cleaner shadows, and stronger HDR performance in high-contrast shots though exactly how LOFIC gets implemented on the HP6 hasn’t been detailed.

It’s also worth separating HP6 from ISOCELL HPC, a 200MP sensor Samsung has officially announced. HPC hasn’t been confirmed as the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s sensor, and HP6 is being reported as a distinct, separate sensor rather than another name for the same chip.

None of this is confirmed by Samsung. What’s being reported is that the Galaxy S27 Ultra may use the ISOCELL HP6 as its roughly 200MP main camera with new sensor tech and possible LOFIC support not exact specs, pixel size, or whether the sensor ends up exclusive to the S27 Ultra. Samsung’s Ultra series has kept largely the same 200MP main camera hardware since the S23 Ultra, so if HP6 pans out, it would be the first real sensor-level change in several generations.
