The iPhone 18 Pro’s base storage isn’t getting a bump, at least according to a new supply-chain report. Instead of moving to 512GB as some had speculated, the report says Apple is keeping the entry-level iPhone 18 Pro at 256GB, the same starting point as the current iPhone 17 Pro.
That’s not nothing, though. The 17 Pro only reached 256GB last year after Apple doubled the base storage from 128GB on the iPhone 16 Pro, so this would mark the first generation in a while where the Pro line’s starting capacity simply holds steady rather than climbing. The report doesn’t explicitly confirm the same figure for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, but the Pro and Pro Max have shared identical base storage in every recent generation, so there’s little reason to expect a split this time.
The timing is what makes this worth paying attention to. Rising memory and component costs have already fueled speculation that the iPhone 18 Pro could get noticeably more expensive this year, and holding the line on base storage while everything around it gets pricier would be an unusual combination. Normally a price increase comes bundled with something buyers can point to, more storage, a better chip, a camera upgrade. Freezing storage while raising price would be a rare instance of Apple asking for more money without adding anything on the spec sheet to justify it directly.
If this holds, anyone eyeing the base iPhone 18 Pro should budget for a possible price jump without expecting extra storage to soften it, and weigh whether stepping up a tier makes more sense than it did with the 17 Pro.
