Google has started rolling out a fun new AI-powered feature called “Me Meme” in Google Photos, allowing users to insert their own photos into popular meme templates and generate personalized meme images directly within the app. The feature began rolling out yesterday as part of the “Create” tab in the app for users in the United States on both Android and iOS.
The Me Meme tool leverages generative AI to take a selected selfie or portrait and combine it with classic meme formats or custom templates, adding humorous or relatable captions in the traditional meme style. Users can choose from a library of preset templates or upload their own reference images before the AI renders the final meme.
To use the feature, Google Photos users simply select an image, tap the Create → Meme option, pick a template or reference, and hit Generate. Once the AI produces the meme, it can be saved locally or shared on social media. The company notes that the feature is optional and only creates content when explicitly initiated by the user; it also keeps image processing local to the app unless shared.
Me Meme adds a playful twist to Google Photos’ growing suite of AI tools, which already includes smart editing, automatic creations, and stylized effects, and reflects the broader trend toward integrating consumer-friendly generative AI features into everyday apps.
