Apple’s AI pin with cameras reportedly in development

Apple AI Pin

Apple is said to be working on a completely new AI-powered wearable pin that could mark its first dedicated AI hardware outside the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Vision lineups. According to The Information and multiple tech outlets, the device is still in very early development and could launch as soon as 2027, though plans aren’t finalized and the project could still be canceled.

The so-called AI pin is described as a thin, flat circular disc roughly the size of an AirTag but slightly thicker, with a premium aluminum-and-glass shell. Apple engineers have reportedly equipped it with two front-facing cameras, one standard lens and one wide-angle lens intended for capturing photos and videos of the wearer’s surroundings. A three-microphone array is said to pick up surrounding sound, while an integrated speaker lets the device play audio directly.

In addition to the sensors, the AI pin is expected to include a physical control button on one edge and wireless charging support similar to the Apple Watch’s magnetic inductive system. It isn’t yet clear whether the device will function fully independently or pair with an iPhone, AirPods, or other Apple devices, but the presence of cameras, speakers, and microphones suggests it can operate on its own.

Apple’s AI wearable is widely believed to be aimed at contextual awareness and ambient interaction, capturing what’s happening around the user to feed into on-device AI models potentially including an enhanced Siri chatbot that’s expected with iOS 27. While the concept follows earlier attempts by other companies like Humane, Apple’s execution could benefit from its ecosystem and hardware expertise.
