Redmi K90 Ultra Tipped To Debut With Built-in Cooling Fan

Redmi k90

Several leaks and reports indicate that Redmi’s upcoming K90 Ultra will be one of the first mainstream smartphones from Xiaomi to feature a built-in physical cooling fan, a technology previously limited to niche gaming phones. The fan is said to be integrated inside the device, most likely within or beneath the rear camera module (Deco area), to help manage heat during extended high-performance use.

This design aims to prevent thermal throttling where sustained heavy workloads like gaming, benchmarking, or AI processing cause the processor to reduce performance to stay cool by actively moving heat out of the chassis.

The device is widely tipped to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, a high-end flagship-class SoC that can generate substantial heat under load. The active cooling system would allow the phone to maintain peak performance for longer compared with traditional passive cooling alone.

Remarkably, leaks suggest the Redmi K90 Ultra will retain IP68-level dust and water resistance despite having an internal fan system, which usually complicates moisture protection in phones with moving components. This combination is rare and would represent a noteworthy engineering achievement if realized in the final retail product.

Alongside the active fan, multiple sources mention additional key features expected for the phone (still unconfirmed):

  • A 6.8-inch 1.5K OLED display with ultra-high refresh rate (often termed above 120 Hz) for smoother visuals.
  • A possible battery capacity of around 8,000 mAh or even above, enabling long usage times.
  • A metal frame and ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner to match premium build quality.

While active cooling (using a fan) has been seen in gaming-oriented devices such as the RedMagic series, this leak suggests Xiaomi is bringing similar hardware to a high-end mainstream performance phone. This reflects a broader trend in 2026 where manufacturers seek new ways to handle heat from increasingly powerful processors paired with high refresh rate displays and long sustained workloads.

Xiaomi hasn’t officially announced the K90 Ultra yet, but current leaks indicate that it could launch mid-2026, following the pattern of previous K-series Ultra releases.
