Nothing Removes Lock Screen Ads on Some Phones After Backlash

Nothing Removes Lock Screen Ads

Nothing has backtracked on its controversial lock screen ads feature, “Lock Glimpse,” following widespread criticism from users who felt the change clashed with the company’s clean software ethos. The feature introduced with Nothing OS 4.0 on several models displayed dynamic content on the lock screen that many perceived as intrusive ads.

In its latest software update, Nothing has completely removed Lock Glimpse from the Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Pro models, effectively eliminating the lock screen ads that angered many owners. On these devices, the contentious feature is no longer present, restoring a cleaner lock screen experience more in line with user expectations.

However, the Nothing Phone (3a) Lite and entry‑level CMF phones remain exceptions. On these devices, Lock Glimpse still exists but is turned off by default, and Nothing says it plans to introduce an option to fully uninstall the feature in a future update. The company describes this as a “trade‑off” tied to the pricing and design of more affordable models.

Alongside removing Lock Glimpse from select models, Nothing’s update also addresses other user concerns by making it possible to fully remove pre-installed Meta services (like Meta App Installer and Meta Service) on compatible devices, and by allowing “App Recommendations” to be dismissed or disabled entirely.
