The new feature, described as a crucial step toward mobile workflow efficiency, introduces rich visual previews that negate the immediate need to open the Gmail application.

Key Features and Mechanics:

The update replaces the generic notification format (sender, subject, brief text) with a modern, media-forward design. When an email contains an attachment, two distinct visual cues appear:

1. Paperclip Icon: A standard paperclip symbol is now prominently displayed next to the subject line in the collapsed notification view, immediately signaling the presence of a file.
2. Visual Thumbnails: For image files, the sender’s profile avatar is dynamically replaced by a small, legible thumbnail of the attached photo. This allows for instant recognition. Upon expanding the notification, this preview expands into a larger, rectangular tile, mirroring the attachment handling seen in modern messaging platforms.

For non-image attachments such as PDF documents, spreadsheets, or word files, the system intelligently renders a labeled “pill” containing the file type and a snippet of the file’s name.
