If Siri or “Hey Siri” isn’t responding on your iPhone after updating to iOS 26, you’re not the only one. Many users have noticed that Siri either doesn’t hear commands or doesn’t reply at all. I ran into the same issue recently and luckily, fixing it wasn’t hard.
Here’s what worked for me and should help you too.
1. Check Your Internet and Restart
Before anything else, make sure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data. Siri still needs internet access to process voice commands.
If your connection is fine, restart your iPhone. A simple reboot often clears out temporary system glitches that can cause Siri to stop responding after a major update.
2. Enable Siri in iOS 26 Settings
In iOS 26, Apple moved Siri options under Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri.
Go there, then open Talk & Type to Siri and make sure these are all turned on:
- Listen for “Hey Siri”
- Press Side Button for Siri
- Type to Siri
If the options are greyed out, it’s likely because of Screen Time restrictions.
To fix that:
- Go to Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Tap Intelligence & Siri.
- Make sure everything is allowed.
Once you do this, Siri settings should become accessible again.
3. Retrain Siri to Recognize Your Voice
If Siri is on but still won’t respond, retraining it usually helps.
Head back to Apple Intelligence & Siri → Talk & Type to Siri, turn off all Siri options, and then toggle them back on. When prompted, tap Enable Siri and go through the voice setup again.
Saying each “Hey Siri” phrase clearly helps your iPhone learn your voice under iOS 26’s updated voice model.
4. Fix Siri’s Spoken Replies
If Siri is answering silently or only showing text on the screen, do this:
- Go to Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri → Siri Responses.
- Choose Prefer Spoken Responses.
Now Siri will always talk back, whether your phone is locked or not.
5. Check Your Microphone
Still no luck? Record a short voice memo or video to test your mic. If it sounds muffled, clean around the microphone holes and remove your case. Also, disconnect Bluetooth devices, since Siri may be trying to listen through your AirPods or speaker instead.
Siri vs Other Assistants on iOS 26
After testing Siri on iOS 26, I noticed that it’s smarter than before, more natural replies and better integration with Apple Intelligence. However, Google Assistant still feels faster at general questions, and Alexa remains stronger with smart home commands.
That said, Siri wins on privacy and seamless iPhone integration. Once it’s working properly, it’s easily the most convenient assistant for Apple users.
Final Thoughts
If Siri isn’t working on your iPhone, don’t panic, it’s almost always a small settings issue. Follow these quick fixes, retrain your voice, and you’ll have Siri back in action in no time.
With iOS 26, Apple has made Siri more intelligent and responsive, but like any AI feature, it sometimes needs a quick refresh after updates. Once tuned properly, it’s easily one of the smoothest voice assistants to use.
