Apple’s long-awaited AI overhaul for Siri is finally approaching, expected to arrive with iOS 26.4 this spring. But a new report claims something unexpected: Apple’s “smarter” Siri may actually rely on Google’s Gemini AI behind the scenes.
According to insiders, Apple has been working closely with Google to build a custom Gemini-based model designed to run securely on Apple’s private cloud servers. Interestingly, Apple reportedly tested multiple AI systems, including Anthropic’s Claude, which performed better in some evaluations. However, Apple ultimately chose Google due to its long-standing business relationship, the same one that makes Google Search the default on iPhones.
The report suggests that Apple will never publicly acknowledge this partnership. There will be no “Gemini” branding anywhere, and Apple will continue to market it under its own “Apple Intelligence” name.
If accurate, this means Siri’s next generation might be powered by Google AI, even as Apple presents it as its own breakthrough. For users, that could mean faster responses, smarter context handling, and improved natural interactions all while keeping Apple’s tight focus on privacy intact. The iOS 26.4 update is expected to roll out this spring, marking one of the biggest leaps for Siri since its original launch.
