So, today we are reviewing Oppo’s new flagship, the Oppo Find X9 Pro. The previous Find X8 Pro is already impressive and pushes things further. You might be wondering how it can be better when Oppo replaced the dual periscope setup with just one? Well, that’s actually a smart move, and here’s why. These are my first impressions of the Oppo Find X9 Pro, which has launched globally.
Design and Build

Let’s start with the design. The Find X9 Pro is noticeably thicker and heavier than the Find X8 Pro. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Oppo added a 27% larger battery and a new, larger periscope camera, which explains the added heft. Despite this, the phone still feels balanced and comfortable in hand.
The most visible change is the new camera module. Oppo has moved away from the circular design and adopted a square module on the top-left corner, something that reminds me of the OnePlus 13 series. It looks cleaner, and the way the glass blends into the metal camera housing feels premium. There’s a bit of asymmetry in the periscope lens placement, which might bother perfectionists, but overall, it’s a solid, premium build.
Oppo also went with flat metal sides and a flat front and back, giving the phone an iPhone-like vibe. The in-hand feel is excellent, with minimal wobble when placed on a table. You also get IP69 water and dust resistance along with Gorilla Glass 2 protection on both sides.
Ports and buttons include a USB-C 3.2 port, power and volume keys, dual nano-SIM tray, and dual microphones. Oppo added two new buttons this time the Snap Key, which opens the MindSpace feature, and the Quick Button, which functions like Apple’s camera control button but with more versatility. A double press opens the camera, a single press captures photos, a long press enables burst mode, and swiping it zooms in and out. It’s smooth and responsive, arguably better implemented than Apple’s version.
Display and Multimedia

Oppo has moved away from the curved display, opting for a completely flat AMOLED panel this time. Personally, I love this change. The flat screen gives it a modern, symmetrical look, and the bezels are some of the slimmest I’ve ever seen, almost invisible. It’s a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED panel that supports a 1Hz–120Hz adaptive refresh rate, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and 10-bit color depth.
While the brightness is technically lower at 3,600 nits (compared to 4,500 on the Find X8 Pro), it’s hardly noticeable in daily use. Both panels are extremely bright outdoors. The colors look natural, especially in the “Natural” display mode, and HDR content on Netflix and YouTube looks fantastic. Another improvement is that the display can now go as low as 1 nit, which, combined with 2160Hz PWM dimming, ensures flicker-free use in dark environments.
The haptic feedback feels premium, thanks to Oppo’s O-Haptics system. The in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is quick and works even with wet hands. Stereo speakers are loud and clear, with support for LDAC and LHDC for high-quality wireless audio. The only thing missing is an anti-reflective coating, something the competition has started offering.
Performance

Under the hood, the Oppo Find X9 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chip. It’s the first phone I’ve tested with this SoC, and it’s seriously powerful. It features an all-big-core CPU setup, with a 4.21GHz ultra core, three premium cores, and four performance cores. The highlight, though, is the ARM G1 Ultra GPU, which outperforms Apple’s A19 Pro GPU in some benchmarks.
Gaming is smooth Genshin Impact ran for 30 minutes at max settings and 60fps without a single frame drop or heating issue. Benchmark scores are impressive, matching or surpassing Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 devices. However, Geekbench scores for CPU performance are slightly behind, meaning the GPU is stronger than the CPU overall. Oppo’s performance tuning is conservative, as seen in the 3DMark stress test, which shows throttling after extended use, but still, performance is top-tier.
Battery and Charging

The Find X9 Pro packs a massive 7,500mAh third-generation silicon-carbon battery, something we don’t often see in flagships. It supports 80W SuperVOOC wired charging, 50W wireless, and 10W reverse wireless charging. While I haven’t done a full battery test yet, Oppo’s power management has always been reliable, and I expect excellent endurance from this setup. Charging speeds should also be impressive, considering Oppo includes the charger in the box.
Cameras

Now, onto the camera’s the real star of this phone. The Find X9 Pro features a triple-camera setup:
- Primary: 50MP Sony LYT-828 (1/1.28” sensor)
- Ultra-wide: 50MP
- Telephoto: 200MP Samsung + Hasselblad periscope (3x optical zoom)
The front camera is also upgraded to 50MP with autofocus. Oppo has clearly focused on camera refinement this year. The new adaptive resolution system automatically adjusts output depending on lighting and focal length, giving you the best balance of detail and file size.
The Hasselblad High-Res mode can capture 50MP or 200MP shots, producing insane detail like spotting a cobweb or reflections in someone’s eyes. HDR processing works even in high-res shots, though colors can sometimes appear a bit oversaturated. Master Mode delivers more natural skin tones and is perfect for portraits, while the default mode sometimes leans warmer.
The 50MP front camera delivers sharp, natural selfies, and the ultra-wide sensor captures distortion-free shots with accurate color. The periscope zoom performs great up to 20x, but results beyond 60x depend heavily on AI enhancement and can look inconsistent. Oppo will likely refine this with updates.
Portrait shots, on the other hand, are excellent. Edge detection is spot on, background blur looks natural, and the transition between subject and background is smooth. Macro photography is another strong point: the detail and natural depth of field are incredible.
Video recording supports up to 4K 120fps, Dolby Vision, and even log video in pro mode. Zoom transitions while recording are now buttery smooth, almost iPhone-like.
Software and Features
The Oppo Find X9 Pro runs ColorOS 16, based on Android 16. The interface feels fluid and refined, similar to OxygenOS 16. Oppo has introduced Flux Themes 2.0, full-screen always-on display animations, and customizable quick settings. Gemini AI is integrated within the new MindSpace app, accessible via the Snap Key. You can store memories, take screenshots or voice notes, and even ask Gemini to organize or recall them.
AI Writer is now system-wide you can use it in apps like WhatsApp. Other new AI features include Portrait Glow for enhanced lighting in selfies. The interface is smooth and well-optimized, though the lock screen’s carousel magazine and pre-installed apps are still annoyances (thankfully, they’re removable).
Verdict
The Oppo Find X9 Pro is a thoughtful upgrade over the Find X8 Pro. It refines key areas like design, display, and camera experience without overcomplicating things. The Dimensity 9500 delivers incredible graphics performance, the larger battery promises great endurance, and the flat display feels modern and premium.
Sure, there are a few quirks: the ultra-zoom still needs software tuning, and the software bloat could be trimmed but overall, this phone shows Oppo’s confidence in fine-tuning an already great formula.
