Apple’s much-hyped iPhone 17 series has hit an early roadblock, as buyers report issues with the device’s AI-powered features branded as Apple Intelligence. The problem surfaced just days after the global launch, dampening excitement around Apple’s latest flagship lineup.
Users Report AI Activation Failures
According to multiple reports, users who purchased the new iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max are unable to download or activate the AI features. Some complain that even after installing the AI modules, the features refuse to function. Others say the required AI data appears to be present in storage, but the system fails to execute them properly.
Apple Acknowledges the Bug
Apple is reportedly aware of the issue and has tasked its support teams with addressing the problem. A fix is expected through an upcoming iOS 26 update or a server-side patch, though the company has not confirmed an exact timeline. Meanwhile, the initial iOS 26.0.1 update released to fix camera and connectivity bugs has not fully resolved the AI glitches.
New Models, New Problems
This year, Apple introduced four models under the iPhone 17 banner, replacing the “Plus” variant with the all-new iPhone 17 Air. Among the key upgrades are improved battery life, MagSafe wireless charging across all models, and the promise of next-gen AI features designed to enhance everyday tasks.
However, with those AI features malfunctioning for some buyers, early adopters are left frustrated. Tech analysts warn that if Apple does not act quickly, consumer confidence in the iPhone 17 series could take a hit.
What Buyers Should Do
For now, affected users are advised to wait for the official fix via software updates or reach out to Apple Support for troubleshooting. While the hardware continues to perform as expected, the missing AI functions cast a shadow over what was marketed as Apple’s most “intelligent” iPhone to date.
